During my time as an Associate Creative Director at Ogilvy Chicago, I worked on a number of projects for Steppenwolf Theatre. Unquestionably the most fun was working on the promotional posters for each seasons’ plays. For years, Steppenwolf worked with photographer Sandro Miller – often in collaboration with other artists – to produce these images. These were consistently unique, intriguing, and, undeniably Steppenwolf. I had the privilege to work on one of these for the 2011 play Clybourne Park, and hand-lettered quotes from the play over James Vincent Meredith’s face.

Along with this work, we (Ogilvy) also initiated a new series of artists’ posters, which used art and illustration instead of photography to showcase each play. Artists who contributed their work to this project were Yann Legendre, Cody Hudson & Chad Kouri, Geoff McFetridge, and James Victore.

The work produced for the theatre won the agency numerous awards including multiple Clios, One Show Pencils, and Cannes Lions.
