STA Archive 15

2015
Creative Direction, Design

2015 marked a year of change. Many designers in the Chicago creative community were migrating to the coasts to escape the city’s perceived limitations, while a new generation of creatives were beginning to grow roots and embrace what the city offers. This flux was the foundation for the work behind The STA Archive 15 – which also happened to be the last year that this long-standing annual event ran under the Archive name. Using a scanner to distort both foundational typographic shapes (round, straight, diagonal), and the typography itself, illustrated, and emphasized this shift, and added a fourth dimension of time as a visual element. This produced a unique snapshot of a particular moment – defining a particular year, in a particular city, in a particular community.

Along with Ben Deter, we produced a communications system for this event that included a website, poster, postcards, social media, entry forms, and compendium of chosen work.

Below highlights some of the process work that went into this campaign, along with some of the finished pieces.
